On Extrapolating Side Information in Distributed Video Coding

چکیده
The ongoing research in Distributed Video Coding (DVC) for low complexity encoding is trying to bridge the substantial performance gap to well known state-of-the-art coders. We introduce our true motion based extrapolation scheme and compare its performance to other state of the art systems in the field of DVC. The results of the extrapolation based approach display nearly the same performance as interpolation based ones. These results are also significantly better than the results from other state of the art extrapolation approaches. Furthermore we study the influence of the motion estimation part by investigating an interpolation approach, based on the same scheme. Finally, we study the losses incurred by using only past frames to represent the motion in

Extrapolating Side Information for Low-Delay Pixel-Domain Distributed Video Coding
Distributed Video Coding (DVC) is a new video coding approach based on the Wyner-Ziv theorem. Unlike most of the existing video codecs, each frame is encoded separately (either as a key-frame or a Wyner-Ziv frame) which results in a simpler and lighter encoder since complex operations like motion estimation are not performed. The previously decoded frames are used at the decoder to estimate the...
متن کاملA Method to Reduce Effects of Packet Loss in Video Streaming Using Multiple Description Coding
Multiple description (MD) coding has evolved as a promising technique for promoting error resiliency of multimedia system in real-time application programs over error-prone communicational channels. Although multiple description lattice vector quantization (MDCLVQ) is an efficient method for transmitting reliable data in the context of potential error channels, this method doesn’t consider disc...
متن کاملAdaptive Motion Vector Smoothing for Improving Side Information in Distributed Video Coding
In this paper, an adaptive motion vector smoothing scheme based on weighted vector median filtering is proposed in order to eliminate the motion outliers more effectively for improving the quality of side information in frame-based distributed video coding. We use a simple motion vector outlier reliability measure for each block in a motion compensated interpolated frame and apply weighted vect...
متن کاملRecognition of Visual Events using Spatio-Temporal Information of the Video Signal
Recognition of visual events as a video analysis task has become popular in machine learning community. While the traditional approaches for detection of video events have been used for a long time, the recently evolved deep learning based methods have revolutionized this area. They have enabled event recognition systems to achieve detection rates which were not reachable by traditional approac...
متن کاملDistributed Coding of Highly Correlated Image Sequences with Motion-Compensated Temporal Wavelets
This paper discusses robust coding of visual content for a distributed multimedia system. The system encodes independently two correlated video signals and reconstructs them jointly at a central decoder. The video signals are captured from a dynamic scene, where each signal is robustly coded by amotion-compensatedHaar wavelet. The efficiency of the decoder is improved by a disparity analysis of...
